Residents from three of the county’s municipalities will go to the polls to elect mayors and city council members in today’s runoff elections.
In Opp, businessman John Bartholomew is challenging two-term Mayor and businessman H.D. Edgar.
In August, Edgar was 89 votes shy of the 50 percent-plus-one he needed to win without a runoff. He received 948 votes, while Bartholomew got 712. Current Councilman Jimmy Rogers ran third with 413 votes.
Additionally, T.D. Morgan and Sue Bowdoin will battle it out for the District 2 seat being vacated by Rogers.
In District 3, Mike Booth is challenging current Councilman Mickey Crew.
In Red Level, Debra Hoffman and Willie J. Hendrix will dual it out for mayor after they successfully knocked out long-term Mayor Mike Purnell in the August election.
In Gantt, Connie Cauthun has challenged current Mayor Missy Grissett. In August, Grissett was only one vote shy of the total she needed to win reelection without a runoff.
Polls in each of the three municipalities will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
