Local artists looking to showcase their talents now have an ever-wider variety of media they can enter in the Opp Cultural Arts Council’s Juried Art Show next month in Opp.
The eighth annual show is seeking participants for the annual event held each October in conjunction with Opp Fest.
There are 13 categories from which participants can choose, and they include oil, acrylic, water color, mixed media, pastel, charcoal or pencil, wood carvings, sculpture, gourds or pottery photography and china painting.
“Last year was fabulous when we had a judge from Niceville – K.C. Williams – she did a fabulous job and everyone was excited when she critiqued each piece that was chosen,” Virginia Dowling of the OCAC said.
She will give each piece her very best.
Additionally, other three-dimensional art may be accepted.
The cost to enter the show is $25 for OCAC members and $55 for non-members, but those who are not members will become members with the fee.
There are some stipulations, Dowling said.
All artwork must be framed or gallery wrapped and all framed paper artwork must be under glass.
For 3D pieces, it must be stable and the size will be at the committee’s discretion.
In additional all artwork must be original, cannot have previously been entered into an OCAC contest and must have been completed in the past three years.
The organization will award a first, second and third places in each category, as well as an honorable mention and a best in show.
Deadline to submit work is Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and those interested may pick up an application at the OCAC on North Main Street Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All artwork must remain for the duration of the show, which will be from Oct. 25 until Dec. 8.
Sales of artwork are encouraged, and the OCAC receives 30 percent of the selling price.
“We are really encouraging everyone to come out – we have really expanded the different mediums,” Dowling said. “This is a quality juried art show and we want it to be the biggest and best ever.”
