The National Hurricane Center is giving a low pressure system southeast of Pensacola a 40 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours.
The disturbance, about 25 miles south and east of Pensacola, is moving south to southwest at 5 to 10 mph, the 2 p.m. advisory from the NHC said.
An Air Force reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system on Thursday.
The NHC says that showers and thunderstorms continue to develop south of the center. Conditions favor strengthening in the next few days.
