Melissa “Missy” Grissett has announced her intent to seek re-election as mayor of the Town of Gantt.
Prior to being elected mayor in 2008, Grissett also served a term as council member for four years and was appointed as the town’s mayor pro tem.
“I assumed the role during Gantt’s legal issues, and I saw then the many things that needed to be accomplished in Gantt,” Grissett said. “For years, Gantt made headlines because of happenings inside the town. I’m proud to say that during the last four years, we’ve seen only positive growth – not negative headlines.”
Grissett said this administration has made “tremendous improvements – and it’s a trend I’d like to continue.”
“We’ve established a court system, which allows our police department the funds to keep our town’s streets safe, and we’ve expanded the water system, which allowed us to increase the number of customers and generate new revenue,” she said. “Now, we are currently examining ways to better improve the quality of life for all Gantt residents.”
Grissett said street improvements and town beautification are at the top of her priority list, if re-elected.
“Those are two of the main aspects needed to attract new businesses,” she said. “I want to see Gantt continue on a path of positive growth. This is my home. I’ve lived here for 20-plus years. I’ve raised my children here, and I want to work hard to make sure younger generations have the same opportunity to call Gantt ‘home.’”
