Graffiti marks city signs

A group of attention-seeking youngsters are defacing road signs throughout Andalusia.

The signs boast a number of spray-painted graffiti markings including “LBW,” the name of the area’s junior college; “TD,” and other letters and symbols.

Assis-tant Police Chief Mike Bowlan with the Anda-lusia Police Depart-ment said a “little group” is responsible for the markings.

“It’s younger folks seeking attention,” Bowlan said. “That’s all it is. It’s kind of sad. We all live here, and we should have pride in our community.”

Bowlan described the graffiti signs as “eye sores.”

“Our city government works hard to enhance our community,” he said. “That’s evident in the beautiful pots on the court square and our clean city streets. I hope that whoever is responsible (for defacing) the signs realize how immature their actions are, and when they grow up, and someone does that to their community, they look back and think about how stupid they were.”

Under Alabama law, the vandals, if caught, could face criminal mischief charges.
