Opp softball league needs sponsors

More sponsors are needed to help the Opp Softball League begin its inaugural season on June 19, league president Mickey Denault said Thursday.
“As of right now, we have eight teams,” Denault said. “Our goal is to start bringing on 19 teams.”
Denault said he had a lot of people approach him about forming the co-ed softball league.
“I just jumped in head over heels and went for it,” he said. “It had been about two to three weeks in the making before we came forward with this.”
Denault said his goal was to have six teams, but by Tuesday night’s league meeting, eight teams showed interest.
“That was a surprise,” he said. “There’s a big following for it right now.”
But what will make the league come to fruition is more sponsors, Denault said.
“If we can get the sponsor money, we will start playing June 19,” he said. “There’s a lot of adults that are excited about this.
“There’s a real outcry for it,” he said.
Men and women ages 18 and up can register to play in the league.
Once the league gains enough sponsors, games will be played at Hardin Street in Opp.
