Andalusia District 4 Councilman Jason Jewel said Thursday he will not seek re-election in the 2012 municipal election in August.

Jewel said his job has taken him to North Alabama, and that it is increasingly difficult to get home.

“I am able to attend council meetings, but there are other things that are just too difficult to get to,” he said, adding that he may move to the northern part of the state.

The construction company for which he works is building a bridge on I-20 at exit 210, east of Oxford, Ala. he said.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the council,” he said. “I appreciate the support that has been shown to me, but I believe it is in the city’s best interest and my best interest that I not seek re-election.”

Jewel was elected in 2008.

This year’s municipal elections will be on Tues., Aug. 28.
