After 46 years, Andalusia’s Regions Bank will lose a “treasure.”

Virginia Lowman, assistant branch manager, celebrated her retirement yesterday in the bank’s lobby, where bank officials, family and friends gathered to pay homage for a job well done.

“She’s been an anchor for this bank for a long time,” Terry Ankerson, Regions executive vice president of the bank’s consumer division, said. “When people think about the bank of Andalusia, they think about Virginia.”

Lowman began at what was then called the Commercial Bank as a bookkeeper. She moved up in the ranks to teller and then as a specialist.

Lowman said she’s been in the same building all of her working life.

“I’ve been here 46 years, so that’s a long time,” she said. “I’ve been in the same building the whole time. It’s changed names a time or two.”

Lowman said she plans on traveling and having fun during her retirement.

“I plan to travel some, and I have a little part-time job I’ll probably do a couple days a week,” she said. “And to just enjoy being at home some.”

Much of her time at the bank was delving in loans, Ankerson said.

“I enjoyed loans,” Lowman said. “I enjoyed doing loans for people.”

Lowman is married to Jimmy, and has two sons, Lee and Jason.
