Andalusia’s Jacard Townsend had a double-double to help lead the Bulldogs to a 72-43 win over Opp on Friday night at OHS.

The Bulldogs set the pace early and went ahead 18-2 late in the first period.

AHS won the tip, but couldn’t convert on it and shortly after went on the 16-0 run.

Andalusia led 22-8 at the end of the first period, thanks to a few turn overs by the Bobcats, especially on in bounds plays.

“We’re proud to win,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said. “Then, we lost our focus after we got a 15-point lead. We got lackadaisical.

“We started off playing like we’re supposed to,” he said. “Then when we got the lead, we mishandled the ball and made poor decisions.”

Joe Flowers scooped up three steals in the first period to help the Bulldogs take a 7-2 early.

Townsend got a steal the next play and the Bulldogs went up 9-2. He scored 32 points and had 11 rebounds for the night.

At the start of the second period, the Bobcats were served a technical foul because their score book wasn’t fill out.

Flowers made the front-end of a pair.

“They stayed the course, but I expect more out of them than what we’ve got,” Robertson said.

Opp’s Tyler Ferguson, who led the Bobcats with 11 points, got two jumpers in a row and the score was 25-12.

Andalusia kept a healthy lead at 29-14 with 3:19 to go in the first half, and went up 34-14 thanks to a Townsend steal and a 3-point play on the other end.

The Bulldogs led 39-17 at half time and went on to outscore the Bobcats 17-12 in the third period and 16-14 in the fourth.

“It was turn overs and we didn’t rebound very well,” OHS coach Ronnie Sansom said. “We let that dictate how we played the rest of the game.

“We better figure it out before next week, or we’ll be in trouble,” he said.

Andalusia’s inside game was in high gear Friday night, as the Bulldogs took advantage down low on transition throughout the contest.

Lakelyus “Fathead” Adams had 13 points; and Sam Byrd chipped in seven points for the Bulldogs.

Opp’s Tavis Stoudemire had eight points.

The Bulldogs end their regular season 16-13 overall.

Andalusia will visit Headland next Friday night, where it will play rival Straughn at 5:30 in the first round of the Class 4A, Area 3 tournament.

Opp ends its regular season on Monday on the road at Brantley.
