If you’re glued to the TV for ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” then the Andalusia Adult Activity Center has a class for you – ballroom dancing.
AAC Coordinator Dianne Jones said the six-week class will begin on Jan. 19, and be held from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
Cost is $80 per couple, she said. Class size is limited to 12 couples, and as of Tuesday, seven slots were remaining.
“We won’t be ‘dancing with the stars,’ per se, but it will sure look like it,” Jones said. “We’ve had numerous requests over the years to offer a course like this, but it didn’t work out. Now, we’ve got a great couple from Enterprise to give instruction.
“One thing we want to remind people is that you have to be 21 to come to the center, but young adults in their teens are welcome at any instructional class we have,” she said. “So with that said, you young people wanting to impress people at the Booster Ball or prom should really come out and take the lessons.”
Gloria Webb, along with her husband Bill, will be instructing the class. The couple has 21 years of dancing experience.
“Dancing is all about fun,” Webb said. “We started all those years ago and have never looked back. Dancing makes you have energy and pep and rejuvenates you.
“We plan to start with the basics, and if people want more, we’ll increase it,” she said. “This is going to be a no pressure, casual class, so come to have fun.”
Instruction will be given on the rumba, swing, fox trot and waltz.
