Andalusia senior all-purpose player Jacard Townsend is this year’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Townsend had 808 yards rushing on 83 carries and 16 touchdowns this season. He averaged 9.7 yards per carry. In receiving, Townsend had eight receptions for 81 yards and three touchdowns.
Additionally, he completed one pass in the air for 24 yards and a touchdown.
Townsend said it took a lot of hard work for him to have the season he had.
“I just practiced hard every week, and I just did what coach told me to do,” Townsend said.
In week five, Andalusia beat T.R. Miller 35-10, and that game to the senior was the most memorable.
“We played how we were supposed to play in the game — on offense and defense,” he said. “It felt pretty good (to get the win).”
Townsend said a big key to his success were the five guys up front on the line.
“The offensive line — they blocked for me,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without the offensive line and quarterback.”
The runner-up Offensive Player of the Year is CP Rogers of Andalusia.
