Council awards bids for park

The Andalusia City Council on Tuesday awarded Skipper General Contractors, Inc. of Evergreen the bid for two concession and restroom facilities to be constructed as part of the renovation of Johnson Park.
Skipper’s low bid of $173,800, was $171,000 less than the highest bid submitted.
Allen Bracewell of the department of leisure services explained that buildings will be similar to the concession facility at the sports complex. At the 8-12 year-old field, the facility will include a press box.
In the planning phase of the project, officials had estimated the buildings would cost $175,000.
In other business, the council awarded a cemetery maintenance contract to Glidewell Lawn Care. The contract calls for the company to cut the grass in the three city cemeteries nine times during the growing season, beginning at Easter. The bids ranged from Glidewell’s low of $1,790 per cutting to a high of $1,850 per cutting.

• Received a $468,000 check from Southeast Alabama Gas District. Councilman Kennith Mount, who represents the city on the SEAGD board, made the presentation to Councilman Terry Powell, mayor pro tempore.
