Despite cold, dreary weather in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, the 39 people who participated in the third Covington County Honor Flight had a great day.
CCHF board member Greg White said 18 veterans of World War II and Korea made the trip.
“It was a cold, dreary day in Washington,” White said. “But we had put ponchos in everybody’s bag and people had brought coats, so they were relatively comfortable.”
The group first visited the World War II Memorial and had photographs made at the Alabama column. Other stops included the Iwo Jima and Air Force memorials, the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery, the Korean War Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial.
The group left Andalusia at 3 Saturday morning and returned at 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
In Atlanta and in Washington, the fire departments gave the plane water canon salutes.
