Meredith’s Miracles fish fry set for Friday night

Preparations are already under way for Friday night’s fund-raising fish fry for Meredith’s Miracles, but help is needed in the form of volunteers and baked goods, said board member June Simpson.

“This is a large event for us,” Simpson said. “Help is always needed to prepare, sell and package the plates.”

Vol-unteers, called “miracle workers,” will feed more than 500 people.

Plates will contain cheese grits, coleslaw, hush puppies, dessert, a drink and fresh catfish and are $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and under. Food will be served Friday from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Southside Baptist Church Family Life Center – a change in time from years past.

“People really want to stop on their way home and grab a plate, so to accommodate that, we moved the time up by 30 minutes,” she said. “We are trying to encourage people to come by, grab some good food and help us to raise money for a terrific cause.”

Tickets for plates can be purchased at Southside the night of the fish fry, but Simpson encourages everyone to buy their plates in advance. Advance tickets can be purchased locally at Harold’s Furniture and Flooring and Covington Pediatrics.

Meredith’s Miracles will also hold a bake sale during the fish fry.

The baked goods sale has also become a large part of the annual fundraiser, Simpson said.

“But, we really need some people to step up and donate items,” she said. “Then, patrons will have the opportunity to purchase those homemade desserts.”

Simpson said funds raised are used locally to aid families in need.

“The goal of Meredith’s Miracles is to help families who have to leave this area to receive sub-specialty care that is not available locally with their non-medical related expenses,” Simpson said. “These expenses can be anything from food, car rentals, gas or lodging expenses. All of the money raised from Meredith’s Miracles events goes directly back to the community. We cover a 60-mile radius of Andalusia.”
