Opp singing sensation Taylor Weeks will get his chance to shine Saturday night.
Weeks will open for the Silverado band’s “The Boys are Back in Town” concert at the Enterprise Civic Center.
Weeks graduated from Opp High School in May and is now attending LBW Community College, where he made the ensemble.
Silverado band will reunite for “one last time” on Saturday. The band was formed in the late 1980s, when seven guys practiced in a small building beside Perry’s Restaurant before making their debut.
In the 1990s, the band found success, opening up for acts such as George Jones, Conway Twitty, John Anderson, Doug Stone, Sawyer Brown and Marty Stewart.
The original members of Silverado were Clark Crates, bass player Steve Weeks, drummer Mark Jacobs, steel and lead guitarist Scotty Ward, lead singers Alan and Mark Bowden, and rhythm guitarist Travis Perry.
Weeks said he learned of the opportunity from Alan Bowden.
“Mr. Allen and I go to church together,” he said. “And he asked me if I wanted to open up for them. I was like, ‘of course.’”
Weeks said he will play a mixture of older country music songs as well as an original.
Weeks’ voice has been described as a Randy Travis-type.
“May people say I sound like Randy Travis or Josh Turner,” Weeks said. “The best compliment I’ve received so far is that I sound like a combination of Brad Paisley and Randy Travis.”
Doors will open at the Civic Center at 5:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 6:30 p.m.
Advanced tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Cotton Sales and The Service Agency in Opp.
If tickets are available, they will be sold for $12 at the door.
