Blue Jays crowned champs

The Blue Jays scored five runs in the first inning, and held on late to beat the White Sox 10-7 Thursday night at Andalusia High School.
With this victory, the Blue Jays remain undefeated in Covington County rec league play.
In earlier action Thursday night, the Rays beat the D-Tigers 16-3 in five innings.
After the first game of the night, the county recreation league presented the Blue Jays the 2011 13-to-15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball championship, and awarded the Most Valuable Player and sportsmanship awards.

Johnny Owens pitched a complete game and had five strikeouts to help lead the Blue Jays in the win.
The Blue Jays got off to a hot start, scoring five runs in the first inning on two hits by Ashton Mayhall and Daryl George, and on errors.
Keeping pace with the Blue Jays, the White Sox added three runs in the bottom of the first inning on errors and a single by Gage Worley.
The Blue Jays couldn’t get any runs across the plate in the second inning, but the White Sox scored one run to make it 5-4.
In the third inning, the Blue Jays scored three runs on an RBI double from Justin McCormick and a two-run single by Worley.
The Blue Jays held the White Sox to no runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Brennan Head scored on an RBI single from Ty Ballard, and then Ballard scored on a single from George in the fourth inning to help the Blue Jays take a 10-4 lead.
The White Sox added one run in the fifth inning when Beau Spivey scored on a double by Jon Spivey.
Then in the sixth, Logan Dauphin and Brett Hudson scored on a double by B. Spivey.
Ballard was 3-for-4; George was 2-for-4; McCormick was 2-for-3; and Worley was 3-for-5 for the Blue Jays.
Hudson was 4-for-4; B. Spivey was 4-for-4; and Jacob Whatley was 2-for-3 for the White Sox.
Rays 16, D-Tigers 3
The Rays scored eight runs in the first inning, and added five runs in the fourth inning in the win.
The D-Tigers scored one run in the first and two runs in the second inning in the loss.
With an 8-3 lead in the third inning, the Rays scored one run before adding five runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to seal the five-inning win.
