An Andalusia man is now facing an escape charge after he allegedly used a magician’s trick to escape out of a sheriff’s office patrol car Saturday afternoon.
Chief Deputy David Anderson said Monday that deputies came into contact with Jonathan Kyle White, 23, at approximately 3:30 p.m. and arrested him on an outstanding third-degree theft of property warrant for an incident that occurred at a residence off U.S. Hwy 29 in April.
“At that point, White was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car,” Anderson said. “While in the patrol car, White managed to move his handcuffs from behind his back to the front (of his body) and make an escape out of the patrol car.”
Anderson said White then led deputies on a short foot pursuit before he was captured and taken into custody again.
In addition to the theft charge, White is now charged with third-degree escape and obstruction of governmental operations. He was booked into the county jail and held on a $106,000 bond.
