Straughn, Pleasant Home finish runner up at regionals

GULF SHORES — Straughn and Pleasant Home will make another state softball tournament appearance next week after finishing runner up today in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s South Regional Tournament at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
The Lady Tigers fell to third-ranked Alabama Christian 8-2 in the Class 4A regional finals.
The Lady Eagles lost to Kinston 9-5 in the Class 1A regional finals.
Straughn punched its ticket to the state tournament when the Lady Tigers scored six runs in the sixth inning to beat Jackson in the elimination bracket championship.
Pleasant Home won its right to make a 10th consecutive state tournament appearance after defeating Sweet Water 11-7 in the elimination bracket championship.
Earlier today, Straughn fell to the loser’s bracket after falling 6-3 to Alabama Christian in the first game of the day.
Pleasant Home and Kinston dueled in an old-fashioned small-school softball game, going 12 innings, where the Lady Bulldogs won 7-6.
Florala fell to Sweet Water in its first game of the day 17-7 to end its season.
Straughn will play Central of Florence at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, while Pleasant Home will play Waterloo at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
