The City of Opp took a step toward making improvements to its sewerage system at Monday night’s meeting.
The city has received a $499,000 Community Development Block Grant to conduct a complete sewerage rehab in the southwest section of the city.
The city applied for the grant last August.
“Those sewer lines were put in when the cotton mills were built,” Mayor H.D. Edgar said previously. “Our problem is that we have breaks in the lines, and we have to go in and patch them. The older the lines get, the more we’ll have to patch them.”
The council also voted to hire CDG Engineers as the engineering firm for the project.
