Headland scored five runs in the first inning, and the Rams went on to beat Andalusia 15-4 Thursday night at AHS.
The Rams scored three of the five runs on walks in the first inning to set the game’s tone.
“We just came out and played timid,” AHS head baseball coach Jonathan Rasberry said. “We were just scared to make mistakes.”
Andalusia scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, and while trailing 7-1, scored three runs in the second inning to keep the Rams honest.
The Bulldogs’ three runs in the second inning came on a wild pitch, a bunt and a single.
Headland scored three runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach for Andalusia.
“Losing the ball game 15-4 is pretty disappointing,” Rasberry said. “The guys understand that, and hopefully we can come out and play a lot better tomorrow.”
Andalusia’s Rob Maddox was 2-for-3, and Grayson Campbell was 2-for-2.
Headland’s Hunter Singleton, Justin Byrd and Jace Johnson were 2-for-3 each.
The Bulldogs fall to 7-9 overall, and 0-1 in Class 4A, Area 3. They will travel to face Headland tonight in the second game of the area series. The first pitch is at 4:30 p.m.
In junior varsity action, Andalusia fell at Straughn, 8-3.
