The Old Three Notch Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution held their annual national defense luncheon on Feb. 8 at Ann McGlaun’s home on County Road 34. The guests were greeted with the American flag flying at the drive. Ten guests enjoyed a salad luncheon served in the dining room with patriotic dinnerware Ann had purchased in Germany several years ago. The china includes navy chargers with white stars appointed with red plates embossed with the American flag.
After the meal, the regent, Jean B. Jones, called the meeting to order and the rituals and salutes to both the American flag and Alabama flag were repeated. Mrs. Jones read an inspiring Patriotic poem her mother had read to her as a child from an old Laidlaw reader. The club enjoyed patriotic music and discussion of what American Freedom meant to each member. Two prospective members visited, Lisa S. Mollitor and Brenda Bailey.
The next meeting will be the tea on April 26 to honor Covington County Good Citizens from the high schools.
