Pleasant Home ended its season Friday night, falling to J.F. Shields 56-49 in the Class 1A sub-regional tournament in Beatrice.
The Eagles had some good chances to take the lead at the end of the contest, but fell short, PHS boys coach Jerry Davis said.
“We played pretty darn good considering everything,” he said. “Our kids overall, kept their composure, and played them basket for basket.”
In fact, Pleasant Home beat J.F. Shields period-by-period accept for the second, where the Panthers outscored the Eagles 15-4 to take a 27-18 lead at half time.
“We won every one, but the second,” Davis said.
Cory Sims led Pleasant Home with 15 points. Colter Poole had 12 points, and Jeffrey Slaughter had 11 points.
Davis said the kids didn’t leave anything on the court Friday night when it was all over.
“The seniors played well to go out the way they did,” he said. “I don’t think they left anything on the floor.
“It just hurts to lose,” he said. “Seeing your kids walking out like that, there’s nothing you can tell your seniors to cheer them up. You just hope your younger kids will get stirred up, and want to get back at it again. Just like anybody else, we’ll crank up, and work and get back at it again next year.”
Pleasant Home ended its season with a 19-11 record.
