Brantley nailed two three-pointers in the last 30 seconds of the third period against Straughn Saturday, and pulled away to beat the Tigers 56-40 in regular season action.
“We just never could catch up after that,” SHS coach Rusty Andrews said.
Straughn trailed and kept it close throughout the contest, even without the aid of three of its starters.
The Tigers trailed 13-10 after the first period, 28-24 at half time and 40-35 at the end of the third period.
Brantley would go on to outscore the Tigers 16-5 in the fourth period in the win.
Despite having all three of his starters out of the game, Andrews said it wasn’t an excuse for how the team played.
“I was down to more or less seven bodies, but that’s not an excuse,” he said.
Austin Pickrel led Straughn with 11 points. Josh Henderson scored 10 points, and Avery Driver and Giavann Nurse scored eight points each.
O.J. Guice led Brantley with 14 points.
In action tonight, the Tigers will play host to Red Level for senior night. Tip off for the varsity boys is around 7:15 p.m.
In varsity girls action, the Lady Tigers fell 41-24.
