Playing aggressively and stepping up their rebound game, the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs defeated Brantley 73-42 on Tuesday at the 13th annual Red Level Christmas Invitational tournament.
“We did a much better job of rebounding than we have been,” AHS girls coach Bennie Shellhouse said. “The key (Tuesday) was our unselfishness.”
Assists and points leader Alexis Horton had 17 assists and 24 points, along with 10 steals.
“We really played well together,” Shellhouse said. “We stayed aggressive the whole time, and we didn’t relinquish our aggressiveness.”
Andalusia improves to 10-4 on the season, and will face rival Straughn on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the tournament finals.
AHS jumped out to a 21-11 lead at the end of the first period, and led 36-21 at half time.
Then, Andalusia outscored Brantley 21-10 in the third period, where Shellhouse said he saw a lot of good things coming from the girls.
“It was one of those games where you felt like the girls wanted to prove and make other people think we’re as good as we should be,” he said. “They wanted to prove that they were a really good quality team.”
Shi’Amber Townsend had 18 points and four rebounds; Tylesha Malcolm had 14 rebounds; and Alison Daniels added 12 points and four rebounds.
Eisha Person led Brantley with 14 points.
