It took less than a day to fill the available spots for the heating assistance program Project Share, Red Cross officials said Monday.

However, there are spots available on the waiting list for those who need assistance paying for winter’s heating costs.

“These spots generally go fast,” said Don Johnson of the Covington County chapter, speaking of the appointment times. “Still, the waiting list is available in case we get more funding.”

Johnson said the weekend’s freezing temperatures did not prompt any calls to the local chapter’s office.

“The calls we had were concerning Project Share, not whether or not there was a cold weather shelter open,” he said.

In fact, the weekend weather did not prompt any shelter openings or force any closures of local roadways or businesses.
