Four Andalusia players finished in double figures to help lead the Bulldogs to an 80-55 road victory over Houston Academy on Saturday night.
Jacard Townsend led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Justin Dooley added 17 points, Corinthian Sims had 13 points and Quayshaun Denson chipped in 10 points.
“Houston Academy has a very disciplined and scrappy basketball team,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said. “They gave us a few problems in the first half, and we had to make one or two defensive adjustments.”
The Bulldogs led 21-17 after the first period, and 44-28 at half time. By the end of the third period, Andalusia had taken a 64-42 lead.
The Bulldogs then outscored Houston Academy 16-13 in the fourth period to get the win.
Robertson said one of the keys to the victory was the team’s rebound play.
“We beat them on the boards because of our size,” he said. “We got the rebounds and ran on them.
“The score is not indicative of the type of game it was,” he said. “We got some put backs in the inside. In Class 2A, Houston Academy’s a very good basketball team. They’ll be all right in that class.”
Andalusia improves to 14-1 on the season, and will play in the Ozark Holiday Shoot Out next week.
In girls action, Andalusia won, 48-33.
