ENTERPRISE — Andalusia girls coach Bennie Shellhouse called Tuesday’s fifth place finish at the Wildcats Thanksgiving Tourney “a successful end to a bad start.”
Still, Andalusia had breaks including catching essential rebounds, and converting a few Prattville turnovers in to lay ups for the win.
Andalusia’s girls improve to 3-3 on the year, and will travel to play Monroeville next Tues., Nov. 30 at 5 p.m.
The trip to the fifth place finish started off in the wrong direction for Andalusia. In the opening game at the Thanksgiving tourney, Opelika handed Andalusia a 30-point 65-35 defeat. Andalusia’s girls bounced back to beat Slocomb 59-50 on Monday night.
“I feel successful after a bad opening game,” Shellhouse said. “Just being able to come back and beat Prattville, that’s big for us. They’ve been competitive with Opelika and that was big for us.”
Leading scorers for Andalusia were Alexis Horton, Alectricia Barnes and Shi’Amber Townsend. Townsend had 18, Horton had 16 and Barnes chipped in 10.
The only time Prattville took any sort of lead in the game was late in the third quarter, where they held a 38-36 lead over Andalusia heading into the fourth.
“The biggest key was getting those rebounds at the end of the ball game,” Shellhouse said.
