Opp City Council pledged $3,000 to the United Fund after minor discussion.
Councilman Scotty Short said he thought the council should give $500, but Mayor H.D. Edgar said the thought the city should give more.
“We talked about giving a contribution,” Edgar said. “But we thought it would be best to discuss it.”
Edgar said United Fund helps Opp agencies such as Opportunity House and Boy Scouts.
Councilman Mickey Crew said he thought $2,500 would be good, while Councilman Oren Stewart said he thought $3,000.
“I think we should at least give $3,000,” he said. “We gave that much to the air show.”
Edgar told the council they didn’t have to pay it all at one time.
“I think it’s a great tool that helps a lot of people really all of us,” Crew said.
