With one week to go, the 2010 United Fund effort is two-thirds from its $115,000 goal.
United Fund board vice president Dwight Mikel said to date, $39,130 has been collected in contributions.
“We’re down to the last week,” Mikel said. “The good news is that historically, we’re right on target as far as contributions go. A lot of large corporate sponsors have not turned in their employee pledges, which makes up a large portion of our total.
“This is not a bad figure to have at this point,” he said of the $39,000 total. “We know there is a lot out there who have committed and the information hasn’t come in yet.”
“Now, that doesn’t mean that (the general public) should wait until the last minute to make a contribution,” he said. “We need every contribution, whether it’s $5 or $5,000. Each donation makes a difference, and each one will help support the agencies that support your friends and neighbors.”
Mikel said he would have liked to have made the Oct. 31 fundraising deadline, but knows it’s not possible.
“I’d love to do it in the time allotted, but I feel comfortable that the community will come through,” he said.
This year’s drive is raising money for the Covington County chapter of the American Red Cross; Impact of Covington County; Boy Scouts; Andalusia Ministerial Association; Girl Scouts; Covington County Adult Training Center; Covington County 4-H Clubs; Opp Meals on Wheels; Youth Sports Recreation Boards; SAFE of Covington County; Andalusia Community Christmas; Andalusia, Opp and Florala public libraries; Opportunity House; Crossover Ministries; Governor’s Committee on Employment of Persons with Disabilities; Sav-A-Life; and the Opp Benevolence Fund.
Contributions can be mailed to Covington County United Fund, P.O. Box 1791, Andalusia, AL 36420.
