Straughn Middle/High School “Sound of Gold” band’s assistant drum major Kurt Grimes earned the award “Best in Show – Solo Performance” at the 25th Annual Daleville Invitational Band Contest.  His alto saxophone solo at the opening of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” earned praises from the entire panel of judges.

The Straughn band, comprised of students grades 7-12, earned excellent and superior ratings.  Kurt and the rest of the Sound of Gold will be performing at Troy University’s Band Day 2010 this Sat., Oct. 16.
