Florala put up 28 points against Geneva County Friday night, but the Bulldogs scored 48 points of its own on homecoming for the region win.
Geneva struck first when Spenser Ham ran the ball back 100 yards on a kickoff return for a touchdown with 11:50 left in the first quarter. The two point conversion attempt was stopped by the Wildcats.
With 5:20 left in the first quarter, Florala’s Lavoris Ball took the ball in for a touchdown, and Eric Vega’s PAT was good.
Then, Geneva County fumbled the ball, and Florala took over at the 3:36 mark in the first quarter.
Florala’s Austin McNeill then threw an interception into the waiting hands of Skylar Pensyl, who returned 40 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good and the Bulldogs took a 12-7 lead.
Florala reclaimed the lead in the second quarter on a Jonathan Burleson touchdown run with 9:28 left in the second quarter.
Then, Geneva County retaliated with a 50-yard touchdown run by Rico Lawson. Their two-point conversion was good, and the Bulldogs led 20-14. Lawson then scored again with 33 seconds left in the half, and the Bulldogs held a 28-14 lead at halftime.
At the start of the second half, Lawson scored again, and the two-point conversion was good.
Florala followed that up with a 35-yard pass from McNeill to Ball to bring the ball to the one-yard line.
Florala’s Hunter Oswald completed the drive, and scored the touchdown.
On Geneva County’s next offensive possession, John Bess intercepted the ball on the 40-yard line.
After that, Lawson scored another touchdown to put the Bulldogs ahead 42-21 with the PAT being no good.
After multiple turnovers, Geneva County’s Lewis Carroll took the ball in for a touchdown. The Wildcats stopped the two-point conversion.
Oswald scored the final touchdown of the night with seconds left in the game.
Florala will host McKenzie next week at home.
