Pleasant Home’s Frank Senn rushed for 329 yards on 33 carries and scored five touchdowns to help lift his team to a 38-36 region road win over Georgiana Friday night.
“He just had an absolutely phenomenal game,” PHS coach Robert Bradford said about Senn. “He had a lot of heart and played with such passion. He truly is the heart and soul for this football team.
“This was a must win for us,” he said.
Georgiana drew first blood first to take an early 6-0 lead, but Pleasant Home answered when quarterback Cory Sims connected with Jeffrey Slaughter for the only passing touchdown of the night.
The Eagles (3-4, 2-3 in Class 1A, Region 2) took their first lead of the night when Senn scored and took care of the extra two points to guide his team to a 14-12 halftime lead.
Pleasant Home came out running and scored again to make it 20-12.
Georgiana answered and scored on an onside kick to cut the Eagles’ lead by two points.
For the night, Georgiana had six touchdowns, and missed all of the extra point attempts.
“That’s how we won the game,” Bradford said. “They scored more touchdowns than us, but we made all of our two-point conversions.”
In the fourth quarter, Georgiana gave Pleasant Home a scare, scoring two unanswered touchdowns to bring their point-total to 36.
Bradford said the difference Friday night in running games was that, “ours was more like we ran right at them,” he said. “Our offensive line was bigger than their defensive line was.
“They did an unbelievable job, and I’m proud of our kids.”
Sims was 5-of-6 and had one touchdown. His only incompletion was before half time on a long pass.
The Eagles improve to 3-4 overall, and 2-3 in Class 4A, Region 2, and will hit the road to play J.F. Shields next week.
