New Brockton defeated Florala 28-6 Friday night in a preseason jamboree game at Matthews Field.
“Our team is still so young, physically and mentally,” FHS coach Chris Buckler said. “However, the guys have great hearts and strive to be the best.”
The Gamecocks took advantage of multiple Florala turnovers and penalties to get the win.
New Brockton drew first blood scoring on a 50-yard touchdown with 7:51 left in the first quarter.
Then, in the second quarter, the Gamecocks scored again with 8:52 left to take a 14-0 lead.
On a 30-yard game, New Brockton scored its third touchdown of the night. Their last touchdown came on a 30-yard pass to the end zone for the win.
The Wildcats scored their only touchdown on a 20-yard rush from Zack Fleming with 10:55 left in the third quarter.
Buckler said the team will be better prepared for next Friday night’s game against Samson.
“We have a couple of things we will be working on to be better prepared for next Friday’s game against Samson,” he said.
Samson will be traveling to Florala next Friday night for the first game in regular season play.
On a side note, Samson’s new assistant coach is Stan Gooden who was head coach at Florala last year.
