The Opp Cultural Arts Council raised about $300 in its silent auction Saturday.

Organizer Martha Chisum said she thought there was a “pretty good turnout, but would have liked to have seen more participation.”

Chisum said everyone who came through enjoyed seeing the new facility and the changes the organization has made.

“Everyone loved the new building and we gave them tours of our work area and the gallery that we’ve put down the hallway,” she said. “This was our first time doing this silent auction. Next time I think we may have shorter hours and hopefully have more people.”

Chisum said she’d like for the silent auction to be more competitive.

“They should go back and forth,” she said. “We the 9 to 1 timeframe, people left.”

While the OCAC did make some money, Chisum said, “I won’t say I’m totally pleased, but I think it was good.”

Chisum said she estimates there were 50 to 75 people coming through the new gallery.

Chisum is turning to the next item on the OCAC’s agenda: workshops.

“We have two workshops coming up,” she said.

The first one is a stained glass workshop with John Hogart, which will be Sept. 22-25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Chisum said this workshop is nearly full, but anyone interested can stop by the OCAC at 107 S. Main Street in Opp.

The cost is $300 and a $100 deposit is required when registering.

A second workshop will be held Oct. 3.

Colleen Guy will hold a portrait demonstration and the cost is $30, with a $10 deposit required at the time of registration.

Chisum said there is a large amount of space available in this workshop.
