Learning new cheers, practicing and fundraising are a few of the many things the Pleasant Home cheerleaders have been doing so far this summer.
Once the final buzzer sounded in the hallways at PHS, the cheerleading squad got straight to work organizing camps and fundraisers.
Recently, the squad spent a full day at Wal-Mart selling car wash tickets to help raise money for a cheerleading camp at the school, PHS cheer sponsor Trinity Dyess said.
“We had a car wash to get to our cheerleading camp, which is coming up July 22-24, where we’ll be having a cheer camp at Pleasant Home,” she said. “So, we’re really excited about that.”
The squad also has been getting ready for the 2010-11 school year.
That includes many things, Dyess said.
“They’ve got new cheers to learn — talking about the junior varsity and varsity squads — they’re learning new cheers and dance routines and building,” Dyess said.
This is Dyess’ first year as the cheer sponsor at PHS, and she said it’s been “a lot of work.”
“It’s great, and it’s a lot of work, but it’s fun,” she said.
The cheerleading squad is composed of only sophomores and juniors for the next school year. The captains and co-captains will not be decided until after camp next week.
On the summer overall, Dyess said it’s been a “busy” one.
“We’ve been staying so busy,” she said. “We’ve tried to have one practice each week. With all of the fundraising we’ve been doing for camp, it’s been a crazy summer.
“It’s been great to get to know the girls,” she said. “We’ve got two great squads. They’re real excited, and they love what they’re doing.”
