Help sought to ‘paint’ AHS

It has been said that volunteering and donating are the voice of the people put into action, and these actions shape and mold the present into a proud future.
That’s what Andalusia High School principal Dr. Daniel Shakespeare is asking the community to do – volunteer and donate.
“Eighty percent of the people who come to AHS never come inside,” Shakespeare said.
Therefore, Shakespeare said it’s important for the aesthetics of the campus to look nice.
Right now, the exterior paint is faded and cracking and is in need of a fresh coat.
Shakespeare has instituted a fund raising project to raise 100 gallons of paint to give the outside awnings and other portions of the exterior a facelift.
“We did this a few years ago, but it needs redoing because it’s been awhile,” he said.
Shakespeare said the cost of a gallon paint is $35 a gallon, and he had collected 35 gallons prior to Monday night’s board meeting, but still has a long way to go.
“We are going to paint the exterior red, gray and white,” he said.
The fundraiser will last from July 12 through Aug. 12, and Shakespeare said he will call on the community to help paint in a few weeks.
“We will have a workday in a couple of Saturday,” he said. “I will announce when it is as soon as we decide. We really need everyone who can to chip in and support us with this.”
Shakespeare said those interested in donating a gallon of paint should make checks payable to AHS.
