An Opp man is dead after a head-on collision in Highland Home Tuesday.
Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook said the two-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 10:05 p.m. on U.S. Hwy. 331 in Crenshaw County.
Thomas Wayne Mount II, 37, of Opp, was traveling south in a 2000 Ford Focus when he collided with a 2004 Cadillac driven by Donald Haywood, 23, of Greenville.
“The initial investigation indicates that Mr. Mount was attempting to pass a tractor trailer on U.S. 331 when he collided head-on with Mr. Haywood’s vehicle,” Cook said. “Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and Troopers continue to investigate the accident.”
Cook said Mount was pronounced dead at the scene by Crenshaw County Coroner Ronnie Turner. Haywood was transported to Baptist Medical Center South where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
