Opp Council members rezoned property on U.S. 331 Monday to allow owners to put a billboard on it.
The property, which is owned by Steve Booth, was rezoned from a R-1 to a B-3, which City Planner Don Childre said is an arterial business district and the least restrictive of the business zonings.
Booth requested the rezoning variance in order to put billboards up for Doc’s Country Store.
Childre said the department of transportation requires the property to be in a business zone to put up billboards.
The council also voted to accept a $333,990 bid from Sunbelt Fire Apparatus Inc for an Emergency One Inc. fire truck, and authorized the purchase.
The purchase was necessary to ensure the city maintains its ISO (fire insurance) rating of five.
The agency requires that fire trucks meet certain standards and to meet those standards, the city was required to purchase a new truck.
