The Straughn High School softball team held its annual spring banquet Monday night.
All players were recognized on the team, and special awards were given to the athletes that excelled during the 2010 season.
The three seniors on the team — Kayla Messer, Stephanie Bracewell and Kayla Teel — were honored as well for their efforts the last three years on the team.
Head coach Ray Wilson said the three seniors have helped compile a three-year record of 111-36-1; won two South Regional championships; three area tournaments; and finished runner-up two times at the state softball tournament.
“All of these ladies will be greatly missed,” Wilson said.
Special awards were given for academic achievement, most valuable offensive and defensive players, highest batting average, the belly down award and the captains award.
Katy Messick received the academic achievement award; Kaitlynn Wiggins received the most valuable offensive player award; Bracewell received the most valuable defensive player award; Messer received the highest batting average award finishing the season with a .337 BA; Katie Beck received the belly down award; and all three seniors were selected as team captains.
“I’m very thankful to our administration for the support we get,” Wilson said after the awards were given out. “I’m very grateful to everybody. I wouldn’t trade any of these girls for anything.”
