The driver of Sunday’s tractor accident in Opp said she “just didn’t see” the farm implement traveling down U.S. Hwy. 331 before striking it from behind and sending its driver to the hospital.
Alabama State Troopers spokesman Kevin Cook said the accident occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. four miles north of Opp when it appeared that 62-year-old Johnny B. Bledsoe’s tractor was struck from behind by a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Lauren E. Russell, 24, of Andalusia.
Luckily, neither person involved received life-threatening injuries, Cook said.
“Mr. Bledsoe was ejected off the tractor and was life-flighted to Flowers hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries,” he said. “Mrs. Russell was treated at the scene and released.
“She said she just didn’t see it,” Cook said.
Cook said farm implements, such as the tractor, are legal on Alabama roadways as long as it is outfitted with proper signage.
