The Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Saints baseball team forced the 10-run mercy rule over Alabama-Southern last Wednesday, winning 16-6.

On Fri., April 23, the Saints fell to LSU-Eunice 3-1, 8-1, and 12-4 in a three-game series in Baton Rouge.

The Saints used a big seven-run fifth inning to propel themselves past the Eagles.

Then, they batted around again in the seventh inning to earn the mercy rule victory.

LBWCC improves to 29-16 on the season, with only a few more regular season games left in the 2010 season.

Taylor Culbreth was 3-for-4 with three runs, one RBI and one walk; Shane Turner was 2-for-4 with two runs, four RBIs and one home run; and Mark Linton was 2-for-3.

Winning pitcher Blake Hanson gave up three runs on six hits in four innings and struck out three.

Boone Shear was 2-for-3; and Ryan Waltman was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Losing pitcher Jeffery Enloe gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out three in six innings.

Sat., April 24

Waltman was 2-for-4 with one RBI; and Culbreth was 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Losing pitcher Chris Barrentine gave up four runs on three hits and struck out two in two innings.

Sun., April 25

Linton was 2-for-4 with one run; Jeremy Williams was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI; and Jefry Etheridge was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Losing pitcher Tyler Dent gave up eight runs on seven hits and struck out two in one inning.

The Saints will travel to Martinsville, Va., on May 12, where they will play in the NJCAA DII Southeast District Tournament, which begins May 14.

Six Saints baseball players have signed scholarships to continue their playing careers with four-year schools as of May 1.

Dozier and Shear signed with Troy University; Bacon signed with Huntingdon College; Chezz McCann, Dent and Cody Hall signed with Auburn University Montgomery.

A complete list of players that have signed scholarships will be released at the end of the season.
