Work has begun on a $1 million, 40,000-square foot spec building at Opp’s Industrial Park.
Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said the contractors are “moving dirt” at the building’s site.
Edgar said the city is building the facility in hopes of bringing some new industry in the city.
“We have a real good prospect,” he said. “But we haven’t signed any paperwork.”
Edgar said if the prospect doesn’t come through, the city will market the building for other industries to potentially sell the space.
Edgar said the cost of the building is approximately $1 million, which is building paid for through municipal bonds for capital improvements set aside for the project.
