The city of Opp will begin small paving projects today, Mayor H.D. Edgar said.

“We will begin working to repair the potholes caused by the severe rains,” he said.

Work will begin on Fairview Avenue today, but Edgar said it should not interrupt middle school traffic.

“The street will be closed for a few hours,” he said. “But it shouldn’t interfere with schools. We hope to re-open around 1 p.m.”

Edgar said there are several areas around town the city maintenance department will be working to fix. Potholes are a problem throughout town and not centralized to one location. he said.

“We are using city employees and city money to make these repairs,” he said.

Edgar said it could take several months to complete the entire project, but asked for Opp residents to continue to be patient with city employees.
