Still time to volunteer in schools

A group that is working hard to fill voids in the city school system needs your help.
Volunteers in Schools puts volunteers in needed roles in kindergarten through 12th grades. Their tasks range from clerical work to tutoring and mentoring.
While a number of people are already giving their time and efforts to the local schools, there is still a need. At Andalusia Elementary School, reading and math assistance are needed in every grade. Andalusia Middle School needs volunteers in its after school program, which runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. each day.
Volunteers must participate in a 30-minute orientation and have a background check. The system’s goal is to have 75 volunteers by the end of the school year. So far, 47 have signed up, but not all have completed the orientation process.
For those willing to participate, there are two more opportunities to do that on the schedule. Sessions are scheduled at noon this Mon., Feb. 8, and at 5 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 10. Both sessions will be held at the central office, located behind city hall.
If you have time on your hands, why not use it to positively influence a child? A caring adult can make a huge difference.
