The U.S. Marshals located and arrested a Lockhart man Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting and abusing a young girl over a two-year period.

Omer Stokes, 37, was taken into custody at 1:15 p.m. by the Marshal’s’ Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force at his father’s residence.

Reports indicate Stokes’ alleged victim was 10 years old when the June 2006 incidents began, all of which occurred both in Alabama and in northwest Florida.

In a press release by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office it is reported Stokes allegedly punched the girl in the mouth for what he described as “being sassy.”

Stokes is currently being held without bond in the Covington County Jail and should be extradited back to Florida where he will face charges of sexual lewd or lascivious conduct of a person under 16 years old and cruelty toward a child without great harm.
