Four of Straughn’s players scored in double figures Monday night in the Tigers’ 52-45 home win over Kinston.

Caleb Cochran had 14 points; C.J. Christopher had 12; Austin Pickrel and James Byrd had 11 points apiece.

“It was a balanced attack,” Straughn coach Todd Reynolds said. “We held Kinston to four points in the second quarter and were on top 29-18 at halftime.

“Kinston fought back to three points with five minutes left in the fourth and a couple of clutch shots by C.J. and James sealed the victory,” he said. “The things that I needed to start happening over the weekend (at the Christmas Shootout) started to happen for us. It was a quality win.”

Kinston’s Hunter Anderson and Zack Day had 10 points apiece.

Straughn’s game against Butler County Magnet School on Tuesday night was canceled due to the weather and will be made up on Saturday.
