The Red Level Tigers regrouped from a “sloppy” jamboree win last week to defeat Kinston on Friday night, 19-3, in Red Level.

Senior fullback Desmond Jones had 18 carries for 161 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Tigers to victory.

Red Level coach Tony Ingram said there were some remnants from last week’s game on the field, but the team overcame those mistakes and got the win.

“We still had some penalties, but there was nothing trivial,” Ingram said. “We got at them. It was a physical ball game.”

Kinston kicked a 32-yard field goal with 9:09 left in the second quarter to lead 3-0, and it was all Red Level from there. Desmond Jones had a 9-yard touchdown run with 3:17 left in the second quarter to put Red Level up 7-3 heading into halftime.

Jones scored again on the third quarter with a 41-yard run, and Preston Ryce added a 16-yard touchdown run.

Red Level will travel to play in its first Class 2A, Region 1, contest next Friday night in Flomaton.

Ingram said the win Friday night was “big” leading up to his team’s region play.

“It’s big,” Ingram said. “It’s what we’ve been working for. We want to compete in our region. (Flomaton) handed it to us pretty good that last two years.

“We just want to get better each week.”

Red Level sophomore Troy Grissett was injured during the game with a possible broken arm, Ingram said.
