Karate students attend open

Three Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students competed for top place finishes at the U.S. Open World Martial Arts Championships July 3-4 at the Coronado Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Students Allen Butler, Rexanne Butler and Dr. Rex Butler each placed in the top 10 of their divisions in each of their karate forms.

The U.S. Open is sanctioned by the International Sport Karate/Kickboxing Association (ISKA) and by the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA), and is broadcast on ESPN.

The three students placed as follows:

Allen Butler in the black belt youth division: musical forms — seventh place; creative weapons — fifth place; fighting — second place; traditional weapons — 10th place; traditional forms — 10th place; creative forms — ninth place; and self defense — 10th place.

Rexanne Butler in the youth brown belt division: musical forms — second place; creative weapons — fifth place; traditional weapons — fifth place; traditional forms — 10th place; creative forms — fourth place; fighting — second place; Xtreme forms — fourth place; and self defense — fifth place.

Dr. Rex Butler in the senior brown belt men’s division: musical forms — fifth place; creative weapons — fourth place; fighting — fifth place; traditional forms — fifth place; traditional weapons — second place; and creative forms — second place.

The Butlers also had the opportunity to attend training seminars and clinics while at the U.S. Open, to supplement their regular karate training here.

World-famous Instructors included Ross Levine and Mike Chat.
