Newly hired Auburn University offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn will be the guest speaker at the Lower Alabama Auburn Club’s annual scholarship dinner next Tuesday night.
Before speaking, Malzahn will visit for a brief time with those attending the dinner.
The dinner will be held at the Andalusia Country Club at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for adults and $10 for any child under the age of 12.
Lower Alabama Auburn Club president Nancy Eldridge said this dinner is the first in a few years for the club.
“This is the first time in two years that the Auburn Club has had an event,” Eldridge said. “Last year, we had Joe Cope (of Andalusia) who played football at Auburn. This is the first year in a couple of years that we have had an Auburn coach come. We’ve had golf tournaments, but this is the first big football coach we’ve had to come.”
In addition to Malzahn, Auburn’s mascot, “Aubie,” will be at the dinner as well, for anybody wanting pictures.
The Auburn club gives out scholarship money to students in the area and, as recently as two weeks ago, one student each from Andalusia and Straughn High Schools earned $2,000 in scholarship money.
