Clayton Miller

Clayton R. Miller, 80, of Mobile, died on June 22, 2009, at his residence.
He was born in Ambler, Pa., on April 14, 1929, to Alton V. Miller and Anna I. Rouse Miller. He grew up in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and moved to Andalusia in 1972. He worked as a fireman on the New York Central Railroad, then for Hooker Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls, N.Y. After moving to Alabama, he worked for Radcliff Chevrolet as a truck mechanic, and then as service manager for many years. He retired from Merrill Motors in 1996.
He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army in Germany and France during the Korean War. He was active in his church all of his adult life, serving as president, vice president, elder, treasurer and teacher, and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Mobile at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers, Alton K. Miller and Norman V. Miller; a sister, Dolores C. Miller Stenzel; and his first wife, Readie F. Clark Miller.
He is survivced by his wife, Viola M. Gross Miller; a daughter, Ellen M. (Nelson) Davis of Mobile; a son, Brian K. Miller of Mobile; three brothers, Donald (Judy) De Maison of Sanborn, N.Y., Dale (Lea) De Maison of Rochester, N.Y., and David (Sherry) De Maison of Mathews, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Miller of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Ruth Miller of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; three stepchildren, Sharon L. (Marion) Rucker of Golcondra, Ill., Kenneth Gross of Avon, Ind., and Keith (Linda) Gross of Mooresville, Ind.; a grandson, Aaron J. Smith of Athens, Ga.; many nieces and nephews; eight step grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service today at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Mobile and interment at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Dozier. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3900 Airport Blvd., Mobile, AL 36608.
